Andrew and Jane’s Story
We met at South Birmingham Vineyard in 1995 while Andrew was doing an internship and Jane was working as a secondary teacher. We served as Assistant Pastors there for 8 years working with small groups, students, youth, schools ministry and worship among other things!
A few years ago we felt God was speaking to us about leaving Birmingham to start a new church. Jane was driving up the A38 one night when she felt a small inner voice say “turn off” just before the Markeaton roundabout in Derby. She drove around Derby for a while wondering what was going on, then continued on her way. (We often find that God is communicating with us and guiding us in many different ways as He is interested in every aspect of our lives. This is one of the things which makes following Jesus so amazing!) There then followed a whole chain of feelings and events which led us to believe God was calling us to move to Derby to start a church. He spoke through people we respected, dreams, random conversations and circumstances. It was as though every time we turned on the radio or talked to anyone, the subject of Derby came up! We visited the city several times and fell in love with it.
We found jobs, moved to Derby and began to get involved in the local community. While Jane finished her MA at Bible college and Andrew worked in Civil Engineering we did amateur dramatics, salsa, aerobics, half marathons, threw parties and made many friends.
We have now lived in Derby for several years and have three beautiful little girls and a lovely church made up of people from many walks of life. We currently meet monthly on a Sunday and in small groups where we eat cake, worship, share some practical teaching from the Bible and pray for one another.
We are so excited about what God is doing in Derby and can’t wait to see what He does next.
God has called Derby Vineyard to be a vibrant, growing community of people who love Jesus, love the Bible and worship God passionately in a creative and contemporary way.
We aim to equip people to extend the kingdom of God in the power of the Holy Spirit, serve those with less than ourselves, train leaders, plant churches and see communities transformed one soul at a time.
